Enjoy a mindful moment with your warm cup of tea, coffee or fall pumpkin latte.

I have to admit, I love my first cup of coffee in the morning. It’s ready when I wake up, and the aroma reaches all the way to my bedroom upstairs. Half-awake, I’ll make my way to the kitchen, pick out my favorite mug, put in a little oat milk and slowly pour in the hot coffee, always watching untiil it’s the perfect caramel color. Savoring the moment while sitting in our comfy blue velvet club chair in the kitchen, wrapping my hands around the mug noticing the warmth, slowly bringing the cup closer, smelling the earthy scent before drinking it. The flavor is nutty and smooth, and each sip is savored paying attention to the taste, temperature and textures of this, my favorite morning beverage. I feel so grateful for this – a quiet meditation moment with the simple pleasure of coffee each morning.

I highly recommend you give it a try!  Here’s my suggested steps to create a mindful moment with a hot beverage of your choice.

  1. Decide on your hot drink and mug.
  2. Slowly and mindfully make your drink. If you notice your mind wandering, gently bring it back to what you are doing and how you are doing it.
  3. Once the beverage is ready, find a comfy spot to sip. Feel your body against the chair and your feet on the floor.
  4. Use all your senses. Wrap your hands around the mug. Notice the feel of the cup, the warmth radiating into your hands. Take time to appreciate the smell, taste, sound while you drink.
  5. Slowly savor the moment, breathe, drink and enjoy!
