Meditation

Are you concerned about your child’s health and well-being? In today’s competitive world, many children are developing stress-related health issues that can affect their ability to function and live up to their potential. Children who participate in meditation classes report feeling more relaxed, more focused and less anxious. This class is specifically designed for children and introduces guided meditation, playful yoga stretches, moving meditation, and various calming techniques, that can be used at school and at home. The class is fun and is perfect for those with stress, anxiety, ADD/ADHD. Most of all, children love it!

Our Approach

Children will be taught a number of techniques that will help them to connect with their inner-self, including their imagination and the real essence of who they are. Once learned, kids use these calming techniques through adulthood, at any time and almost anywhere. These techniques include:

  • Imagery and visualization
  • Guided meditation
  • Focusing on breath and mantra
  • Stretching and movement
  • Positive affirmations
  • Creative problem solving
  • Stress reduction tools for use during exams or competitive sports

Stress Reduction for Youth

Goals of this program include:

  • Provide students with a variety of tools for optimum stress reduction through breath work, guided meditation, yoga moves, and self-healing techniques.
  • Provide a positive, calming environment for open discussion about when and how to use the tools
  • Notice when stress arises, ways in which we hold our stress and how that feels in the body. Investigate when and where to incorporate ways to self-regulate whether we are dealing with physical or emotional pain. Provide suggestions for practicing these techniques at times of stress
  • Build self-awareness
  • Help to redirect the flow of emotions that occupy the mind by practicing gratefulness
  • Help to reduce anxiety and maintain focus

Calm Bodies Calm Minds 1:1

This program is perfect for anyone on the autism spectrum or with anxiety or ADD/ADHD. This class will focus on various calming techniques including breath work, guided meditation, gentle yoga stretches, walking and dance meditation. Over time, each student will begin to tune-in to what helps them to calm their bodies and minds during times of stress. Class appropriate for all levels. Please bring a blanket and yoga mat.

Goals of this program include:

  1. Provide an individualized plan for stress reduction. Techniques and plan will be adjusted accordingly depending on the needs of the individual.
  2. Provide students with a variety of tools for optimum stress reduction through breath work, guided meditation, yoga moves, and self-healing techniques.
  3. Provide a positive, calming environment for open discussion about when and how to use the tools

 Reiki

Reiki is a safe and effective healing treatment for children, teens, adults, the elderly and those with special needs. We provide private Reiki treatments for ages six through adulthood.

Private one hour sessions for children and teens are generally a combination of yoga, meditation, breath work, self-healing techniques and Reiki which all help to calm, relax and heal the whole individual. The Reiki portion generally last 30 minutes. We end the session with open discussion on how and when to use the meditation tools during times of stress. Depending on the age of the child, parents may be present in the room during a Reiki session.

Some benefits to treating children and teens with Reiki are:

  • Improve concentration
  • Enhance relaxation and sleep
  • Reiki is calming and balancing
  • Encourage self-awareness and enhances self-esteem
  • Reiki can help with emotional and physical issues (but does not replace consulting your doctor).

Tae Kwon-Do

In this program children will learn a variety of Tae Kwon-Do techniques designed to build strength, coordination and self-esteem in a fun, noncompetitive environment. The rules of martial arts; respect, responsibility and self-control will be emphasized. Your child will learn a range of techniques from basic punches and kicks to more complex moves. You will be excited to see how quickly and eagerly he or she learns and grows in confidence. All martial arts enthusiasts are encouraged to join whether you are a beginner or have experience with the sport.

The class is perfect for children wanting to enroll in more than one session. Each week will be geared towards both beginning levels and made more challenging for those who have previously participated.

Your children will also be introduced to a variety of relaxation techniques; after a good work out, it is important to calm the mind and the body. Techniques include guided imagination journeys, playful yoga moves, moving meditation, and breathe work. These are lifelong tools that can be easily incorporated into their daily lives and used during times of stress.

Each participant should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat and a water bottle.

This class is currently offered through Needham Public School’s ease program and Summer Explorations Program.
